2025 Plans
As the year comes to a close, it’s time to take a step back and look at what 2024 brought to the hobby table—and maybe steal a quick glance at what 2025 might hold.
At the start of this year, I made a modest resolution: to bring some order to my chaotic hobby ambitions. While I’ve never been one for strict New Year’s resolutions, I do enjoy the act of planning. Honestly, I didn’t expect those plans to last more than a few months, but to my surprise, they held up remarkably well. Here’s a rundown of what got completed, what didn’t, and what unexpected projects emerged along the way.
✅ Isengard (MESBG)
✅ Dwarfs (OW)
❌ Orcs and Goblins (OW)
✅ Vampires (OW)
❌ Mechanicum (HH)
✅ Solar Auxilia (LI)
❌ Necromunda Comeback
Unplanned Projects That Took Off:
✅ Chaos Daemons (40k)
✅ Fantasy Terrain
✅ Warriors of Chaos (OW)
✅ 3D Printing
✅ Miscellaneous Miniature Projects
2024 turned out to be the year of surprises. The most notable was the triumphant return of Warhammer: The Old World. When I set my plans, I’d thought its release would happen mid-year, but it arrived earlier and with much greater impact than expected. That shifted my focus to readying existing armies (Dwarfs and Vampire Counts) for battle and building terrain. While I’d planned to start Orcs and Goblins, I found myself captivated by a marauder-themed Chaos force instead.
Another unexpected resurgence was Warhammer 40k. I thought this game had taken a back seat in our local group, with Necromunda and Kill Team stealing the spotlight. But with renewed excitement in the community, I dusted off some older armies (Orks and Genestealer Cults) before diving into my long-neglected Chaos Daemons.
Finally, 2024 marked my entry into the 3D printing world. With a filament printer at home and a better understanding of resin options, my hobby world expanded exponentially. It’s hard to overstate how much this technology has revolutionized the hobby—opening up new possibilities and truly leveling up the experience.
All in all, it was a fantastic year, even if some plans had to be adapted. With that in mind, here’s what I’m dreaming up for 2025:
2025 Hobby Plans and Resolutions
War of Rohirrim (MESBG)
The recent edition of Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game has reignited my passion for this setting. Most of my models are ready, but new army changes mean a few additions: War of Rohirrim models, Saruman, and some Uruk-hai reinforcements. There are also some mordor and fellowship models laying around but it all depends if i had a chance to play this great game more often.
40k and Horus Heresy
Building on last year’s return to 40k, I aim to focus on projects that cross over between systems: Chaos Daemons, Imperial Guard, Traitor Guard, Mechanicum, and Knights. There’s also a local 40k campaign kicking off soon, so I expect plenty of games to fuel my painting motivation.
There’s also a side project in my head based on Space Marine 2, but I’ll keep the details under wraps for now.
Invade Bretonnia (OW)
After a brief break, The Old World is firmly back on my radar. My “Wolves of the Sea” army and some Tabletop World terrain are top priorities. This project started as a way to play alongside a friend building a Bretonnian army, and I’d love to see it through to completion. Beyond that, I want to get Chaos, Dwarfs, and perhaps even an Empire army painted—and don’t forget the Orcs and Goblins waiting in their boxes.
Legions Imperialis: Season 2
Epic-scale battles were a highlight of 2024, and I’m eager for more games in 2025. Most of my forces are painted, so the focus will be on gameplay, though I wouldn’t rule out some Marine or Mechanicum reinforcements—or even a large terrain centerpiece. This game was probably my most satisfyingproject of last year so i want to see more of it.
Darktide Inspirations
Playing Darktide has me itching to bring some grimdark, underhive-inspired projects to life. Necromunda terrain and Chaos cultists (for Kill Team) are on the docket, with the possibility of a Necromunda Secundus mini-campaign down the line. This one is something i plan to do in between other stuff so im not having big plans for it.
With so much on my mind, I’m grouping these plans into flexible packages rather than locking in specific projects. That way, I can focus on whatever inspires me most at the time. The Old World is already on my desk, so it’ll likely take the lead, but 40k, Kill Team, MESBG, Legions Imperialis, and Horus Heresy are all likely to feature heavily.
One key goal for 2025 is to move away from building entirely new armies and instead focus on refining existing ones with smaller, high-quality additions. I’d also like to tie my projects into narrative campaigns—nothing brings a hobby project to life like a good story. I would really love to finaly get some purely painting projects, but we will see.
Here’s to a busy and exciting 2025! May the dice roll ever in your favor.
